HAPPY NEW YEAR! It's been a whirlwind of a year for many of us. Many have stated that this school year was even more challenging than last year during remote learning. Why? Well, as expected, we saw a LOT of regressions with social skills, motor skills, emotional regulation, and SENSORY FUNCTIONING! Many students were stuck in their houses for almost a year and now seem like they're either super sensitive to sensory input or they can't get enough! Are you seeing that too?
Now that we finally got our head above water, and are recovering from the first few months of an intense school year, it's a great time to MAKE A PLAN! You now have a better grasp of what's going on in your schools. Most likely, you can see that there is a NEED for helping a LARGE number of children. How do you plan on helping?
This is a great opportunity to start with a STRUCTURED way to teach sensory modulation to as many kids as possible! The Just Right! Curriculum is PERFECT for this because it was designed as a Tier 1 intervention to be taught to entire classrooms. For the students that may have more difficulty understanding the concepts, you can also teach it to small groups or individuals using the modifications at the end of each lesson. For example, I have been teaching the curriculum to SIX classrooms this school year already in 3rd grade, 2nd grade, 1st grade, and a self-contained classroom for children with Autism. Kids are learning about "proprioception" and "vestibular" input. They understand these concepts and are learning more about their own needs and preferences. Not only that, but TEACHERS are getting involved with sensory modulation. They are also understanding the concepts and seeing how easy the lessons are to teach. Most importantly, they are reporting how it is positively affecting their ability to learn academics and SEL topics.
Curriculums are my favorite things because it doesn't require me to think...when I have so many other things to think about! I love structure, so why not use a structured program instead of recreating the wheel?
If you've already purchased the curriculum, but haven't started...now is a perfect time! In addition to that, I will be teaching a 5-hour CEU course through Hands-on Approaches on February 14th.
